Ekādaśī Māhātmya is a comprehensive and authoritative work that brings together scriptural teachings on the greatness, observance, and spiritual significance of Ekādaśī Vrata, one of the most sacred vows prescribed in the Sanātana Vedic tradition.
Drawing upon the Vedas, Purāṇas, Smṛtis, and traditional Dvaita literature, this volume demonstrates that the observance of Ekādaśī is not merely a ritual practice but a universal spiritual discipline intended for the welfare of all humanity. Performed with devotion to Lord Śrī Hari, the vrata purifies the mind, destroys accumulated sins, strengthens devotion, and becomes a powerful means for attaining divine grace.
The book highlights celebrated scriptural declarations such as:
"Ekādaśī-samaṃ kiñcit pāpatrāṇaṃ na vidyate" – There is no vow equal to Ekādaśī in removing sin.
and
"Aśvamedha-sahasrāṇi Vājapeya-śatāni ca, Ekādaśy-upavāsasya kalāṃ nārhanti ṣoḍaśīm" – Even a thousand Aśvamedha sacrifices and a hundred Vājapeya sacrifices do not equal one-sixteenth of the merit obtained through the observance of Ekādaśī.
The work explains that the true observance of Ekādaśī consists not only of fasting but also of constant remembrance of Lord Hari, devotional worship, study of sacred texts, and night vigil (jāgaraṇa). It encourages devotees to understand the deeper spiritual purpose of the vrata rather than viewing it merely as abstinence from food.
An important feature of the book is its presentation of historical and traditional evidence showing that the observance of Ekādaśī was once widely practiced with great devotion across different Vedic communities. The volume also includes inspiring references from the Nārāyaṇīyam, traditional scholars, and the revered Jagadguru Śrī Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Mahāsvāmigal (Kanchi Mahāperiyavā), who emphasized the revival of Ekādaśī as the "King of all Vratas" and described it as a great dharma essential for the spiritual well-being of society.
Through extensive quotations from Purāṇic literature and traditional authorities, Ekādaśī Māhātmya presents a clear and authentic understanding of the vrata while inspiring devotees to observe it with faith, discipline, and devotion.
